This weekend was a happy one for Mehmet and his lovely wife Bomee. They welcomed the newest member of their family, little Altan. A healthy Turkish-Korean bundle of joy at 6 lbs 14 oz, has entered the world and has blessed the whole Plus Factory family. Congrats to Mehmet, Bomee and Altan.
So Best Buy is getting a little hipper with this new augmented reality ad they released on Sunday. Using the latest in Augmented Reality Technology (think of the 1st down lines you see on the field during a televised Football game, the lines are only viewable on TV, but not in real life). They printed an ad that can be viewed in 3D on a PC. You hold the printed page up to a webcam to view a representation of the product and you can move it around and really see it. We were a bit surprised this came from Best Buy and even more surprised at how well it worked. Being able to interact with these realistic representations is something that could really change e-commerce. Take a look at our video and to see how it works.
So today we had our first company lunch from our new office space. We took a vote and the vote came down to Chinese or BBQ. Since Mehmet was scared that everyone would be falling asleep from food coma after the BBQ joint, we picked Chinese. So off we went to Grand Sichuan, for some good ole spicy northern-style Chinese food. Everyone had a great time and a good lunch. No one fell asleep yet.
We are still moving in, setting things up and getting our infrastructure all in place. But for you curious ‘Georges’ out there, here are some pix of our new office space. Only we can get some of that China office furniture here at the NYC office – sigh.
So we set up the Verizon DSL (not easy), and got our wireless Netgear router to work. Everyone seems to be enjoying the freedom of wireless internet except for Mehmet. For some reason his laptop won’t connect with the router (cough cough….he has a PC, everyone else is using a mac….cough cough), so we had to bust out the good ole 50 ft ethernet cable which I had since 2002 (Winter Olympic Games in Utah. I had to set up a on the fly workstation with old-school ethernet routers and switchboxes….remember those?)
So anyways, while everyone is wire free on their laptops/desktops, Mehmet needs to get the internet the good ole fashion way….hardwire. But hey, it still works.
Except there is a 50 ft cable running thru the office floor.
